Journalist Threatened to Be Kicked Out for Monitoring Prices at Yerevan City
Armenia
Today a journalist of Lurer.com visited Yerevan City Supermarket located on 10 T. Mets Street to monitor the prices of commodity goods. Having noticed that our journalist is making notes of the prices in his note-pad, the security officer asked him whether he has permission from the management to record prices.
Our journalist said that there was no need for a special permission because he was only monitoring as a journalist, however the supermarket manager that was invited by the security officer to deal with the case, rudely demanded that the journalist leaves. As a response to the question what served grounds for price increase of certain goods, the manager yelled at him and demanded to immediately leave the territory of the supermarket, otherwise the security would “help” him to do so.
Such a behavior of the management of the supermarket is very surprising when the journalist without using any recording devices simply makes notes of the prices without breaching any law in order to understand the existence of possible inflation. Thus, having impeded the monitoring of the journalist, the management of the mentioned branch of Yerevan City Supermarket attempted to hide the expected or already recorded inflation of prices.
Reminder: The law doesn’t forbid recording the prices on the price tags.
