Armenia
PAP faction secretary Naira Zohrabyan stated in an interview with Lurer.com that they met with representatives of rural communities and environment protection organizations prior to voting for the law on Sevan Lake. To our question what organizations they met with, Mrs. Zohrabyan mentioned specifically “Tapan” eco club and Consumers’ Associasion. Naira Zohrabyan told that the environmentalists’ opinions were not identical.
We contacted Hrant Sargsyan, head of “Tapan” eco club. He said that he didn’t take part in the meeting but expressed his opinion on the phone.
“ I can’t say for sure whether voting for the law on Lake Sevan is right or wrong, because I don’t have any infromation proving that reservoirs are really empty. These are serious calculations. Working with water economy is a serious issue. I am not a specialits, the opinions of sepcialists are required. It is necessary to keep track of everything. Who is going to do that? Who will be responsible for that?” noted Sargsyan.
The head of Consumers’ Associasion Melita Hakobyan said in an inetrview with Lurer.com that she didn’t take part in the discussion either, there was no invitation, but she expressed her opinion on the phone.
“If the people need water we should give it to them. It will ensure incomes. Besides agricultural goods are very important for our people. The most important issue is to build reservoirs and not let the water flow to other countries. We feed people, it is inadmissible to let them starve,” concluded Mrs. Hakobyan.
