Armenia doesn’t Have the Right to Linger

PAP member Vardan Oskanian posted the following on his Facebook wall:
“Yesterday Syrian President Bashar Assad accepted that the country is at war. He means indeed civil war.
In Syria at present there are approximately 60 thousand Armenians, 45 thousand of which live in Aleppo. The Armenian community in Aleppo is considered the “mother community” because it is the first community formed after the Genocide. Today the existence of the Syrian-Armenian community is at stake. The further developments are unpredictable.
I, having been of Aleppo descent, indeed constantly communicate with my friends and relatives there. Yesterday I found out from them hat during the last eight months not a single Armenian official visited Aleppo or Syria. In a word, the community is left to its own hope. The Armenian organizations in Alepp, unions don’t feel the support of their fatherland at all.
Official Yerevan should undertake a few urgent steps. First, a Security Council session should be summoned to understand what the steps of Armenia should be in the case of further developments and what kind of help the Armenian community in Syria can receive.
Second, a special envoy of the Armenian President should visit Aleppo without making it public. He should unite the representatives of all the Armenian organizations, unions, religious groups, listen to their opinions and plan should be developed to undertake necessary steps in the event of undesirable developments.
Armenia doesn’t have the right to linger anymore."
