OraSure Technologies Company’s The OraQuick In-Home HIV device, which determines the presence of the infection and is already being used in US hospitals as a HIV 1 and HIV 2 infection determiner, will appear in US shops in October.
From now on, everyone who wishes can be examined and check the presence of HIV 1 infection. For the procedure it’s necessary to insert the device into the mouth after which to put it in a special solution with a sample of saliva. The result will be ready In 20-40 minutes. As a rule 92% of the diagnosis is accurate, but the positive result doesn’t at all mean that the infection is present. In that case it’s necessary to contact a physician.
According to US Food and Drug Administration quality control data, 1.2 million Americans live with HIV, 5% of which are not aware of it.
