We Need Constitutional Reforms

Today, during the meeting with reporters on occasion of Constitution Day a member of Constitutional Court, professor Felix Tokhyan spoke about the necessity of constitutional reforms.

He noted that in this sphere we have issues and that issues require solutions.

“The methodology of constitutional reforms needs to be chosen accurately. The methodology was chosen accurately only during the adoption of Constitution in 1995, and later deviations were observed. The draft of constitutional reforms received a high rating from the commission of Venice in 2001, but very little of it was left in the draft of 2003. In 2003 the project was put to referendum and failed, but no one speaks about it. Sadly, in 2005 we adopted the current Constitution despite the fact that it has a great potential of improvement.

Today the greatest problem of the country is the factor of time. We are falling back. The world is transforming fast. We need a most serious modernization of the country. This issues require realization of constitutional reforms as soon as possible.
