Nearly 200,000 residents had to flee from the economic capital of Syria- Aleppo, when on July 28 the government forces began the counterattack. Agence France- Presse informs, that this was reported on Sunday, in New York UN chief office by Valery Amose- the head of UN humanitarian affairs.
Amose expressed his concern over the application of tanks, artillery and heavy ammunition by Syrian authorities. According to him, the majority of the residents would prefer to leave the battle area, but does not have that opportunity, while Aleppo lacks drinking water, food, mattresses, blankets and hygiene items.
Meanwhile, the witnesses claim that the government forces yet don’t succeed in breaking the resistance of the rebels. The Syrian government qualified the battle of Aleppo as a final stage of the civil war, when the command of the rebels promises to turn the city into a cemetery for the Syrian army. In his turn, the US Defense Minister Leon Paneta, mentioned during the Near East tour, that the battles of Aleppo will become a “nail for Syrian president Bashar al- Asaad’s coffin”
