Due to equestrian team triathlon competitions the Germans (Dirk Schrade, Peter Thomsen, Sandra Auffarth, Ingrid Klimke, Michael Jung) won the first gold of the Olympics. The team of UK was on the secong horizontal, and bronze was given to the team of New Zealand.
The Germans won with 133.7 points, the British - with 138.2, and New Zealanders - 144.4 points.
