Recently we presented a letter, according to which the dump not far from Masis City causes the discontent and anxiety of the city residents.
It was mainly said, that tones of household waste are moved periodically from Yerevan to Masis and sold through burning, as a result of which hazardous and toxic substances are emitted into the atmosphere, causing sharpening of chronic diseases of Masis residents and acquisition of new ones. 250 residents have signed the letter.
We spoke to Ani Gabrielyan, who gathers the signatures, which once more confirmed the seriousness of the problem and stated:
“Arising from insanitary condition, residents of Masis city applied for many times to the Utility Department of Masis City Hall, MPs of 16th district and even to the mayor, which didn’t undertake anything. You can’t imagine, every morning the air is terribly unbreathable, the whole population suffers, the garbage smokes day and night, residents can’t open the windows in this hot weather.”
We also contacted the chief specialist of Utility Department of Masis City Hall Garnik Rushanyan, which said to us, “According to the law the waste is being destroyed and covered from time to time. We just don’t have a fence, some people come and set it on fire and we go and extinguish it. There is not such a problem, and today that politics became active, such news is spread.” And to the question, who they mean, he replied, “For instance, the Heritage party. Listen, we don’t have such a problem, who sees this kind of problem let him come and we’ll go together and see.”
To note, the letter was sent to NA Heritage party with the request to raise the issue in NA and keep it in the center of attention.
Here are photos of the smoking waste, where it’s obviously seen the insanitary condition of the dump:
