Syrian Army Attacks Aleppo
World
Syrian Government army started a mass attack over Aleppo this morning. The "Al-Arabia" TV reports, citing its sources in the Syrian army.
Syria's state TV station reports that the Government troops had success the first few hours, occupying south Aleppo district of Salah ad-Din, through which the Aleppo-Damascus highway passes.
"Al-Jazeera" TV station reports that the armed unit of the Syrian opposition - the "Syrian free army" confirms that it has withdrawn from Salah ad-Din district.
The data of The Guardian and Reuters agency slightly differ. According to them the opposition recorded a little withdrawal and the news of the Government troops’ process are greatly exaggerated.
It should be noted, that it has been about 2 weeks, that battles are being fought for Salah ad-Din district which is of strategic importance. Earlier it has been reported, that Governmental troops managed to take it back, but later turned out that that information does not correspond to reality.
According to sources, the district has repeatedly been bombed and suffered artillery by the Governmental troops, as a result of which about 60% buildings are destroyed in Salah ad-Din.
Note, that Salah ad-Din is in the south of Aleppo, and is quite far from the Armenian-populated parts of the city.
