Violence against Women must be Terminated
Society
As you know, "Society Without Violence” NGO had raised a great protest concerning the violence against women and the continuous humiliation of women in Armenian soap-operas.
The protest wave had launched on July 27 from the organized protest. A video developed by the organization was shown during the protest, which had more than 8000 views in a short period of time. Signature collecting started during the protest and 200 passers-by joined it; later an online signature collecting launched, the content of which we present below.
"Society without Violence" NGO condemns the propaganda of violence against women on television and reported that from now on it is going to be much more consistent and demanding in reducing the gender-based violence, sexual expressions, and women humiliations on television. At the same time, the organization calls on the RA non-indifferent citizens to join the signature collecting in order to increase the protest wave and make it most influential.
Demand gives rise to proposal: we demand to terminate the propaganda of violence against women on television. As RA citizens, we are against the broadcast of soap-operas, which preach the culture of violence against women.
It should be noted that the monitoring of the “Hard living” soap-opera on “Armenia TV” recorded some positive changes in the last week. Particularly, the husbands and boyfriends of regularly beaten women began to have a more affectionate attitude towards them, and one of the heroines even started to work.
However, the organization is not going to be limited in this and will continue to struggle. Official letters are going to be sent to all the RA televisions on August 17. The signatures of hundreds of citizens are going to be attached to them.
