Charles Aznavour is called not to participate in reopening of Ahmedie mosque
Society
Council of Armenian NGOs of the Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli calls Charles Aznavour to refuse to take part in reopening ceremony of Akhaltsikhe castle and its part Ahmedie mosque. The statement of the council reads: “On August 16 of this year Georgian state agencies plan to reopen the Akhaltsikhe castle and its part Ahmedie mosque. According to Georgian media Charles Aznavour is going to take part in it, and is going to perform with the music band accompanying him just next to the mosque.”
Georgian authorities restore a Turkish mosque in Akhaltsikhe and continue ignoring demands of Akhaltsikhe Armenians and Georgian-Armenian diocese to return the Armenian St Nshan Church to the community; and Armenian churches and other spiritual memorials in Georgia continue crumbling. In such conditions Charles Aznavour’s concert will strike back world famous chansonnier’s reputation among Armenians of Javakhk. Taking part in this ceremony he’ll automatically promote Georgian state agencies’ policy of violating rights of Armenians in Javakhk.
We evaluate this ceremony as plot of Turkish - Georgian tandem against Armenians of Javakhk, to which they try to involve the world famous singer possibly making use of his unawareness and his desire to perform in his fraternal Akhaltsikhe city.
Taking into account the above mentioned Council of Armenian NGOs of the Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli calls Charles Aznavour to refuse to take part in the ceremony, instead, raise the problems that Armenians of Javakhk are concerned with.”
