BBC Director- General Mark Thompson moves to The New York Times

Mark Thompson, who is abandoning his position of Director-General of BBC British Broadcasting Corporation, moves to the American newspaper The New York Times, Agence France-Presse reports.
Thompson will run the positions of Chairman and Executive Director in The New York Times, the announcement in the periodical reads. Besides, Thompson will enter into the Board of Directors. Thompson will start to work in November.
Mark Thompson is the Director-General of the BBC from 2004. Before that, he led British Channel 4. About his decision of leaving BBC, Thompson announced in the March of 2012, mentioning, that he’ll abandon his position after the Olympic Games.
However, in the January of 2012, it became known that the British Broadcasting Corporation is looking for candidates for the position of Director-General, who would agree to work for much lower salary, than Thompson, who received £ 671.000 per year. The amount of monetary compensation, which will receive Thompson in The New York Times is not yet not published yet..
It should be noted that the Director-General of the BBC-Thompson will replaced by George Entwistle, who is the head of BBC Vision department. He will assume his duties on September 17.
