Three smugglers traveling to Dubai may have made monkeys of security officials in Bangkok, but they were caught with their pants down at India's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Customs inspectors discovered a rare live Loris monkey hidden in one of the suspects' underwear.
Three men switching planes in Delhi on their journey from Bangkok were noticed as they tried to board a Jet Airways flight to Dubai, the Telegraph reports.
When officials searched one of the three men, named as Al Dhaheri Hamad, Al Shamsi Mohammed, Al Shamsi Rashid, they found a monkey measuring seven inches in length and weighing 150g, in his underwear.
The men quickly confessed they had also been smuggling another monkey but had ditched it in a concourse waste bin because they could not carry it any further.
"On their direction another little monkey was recovered from a dustbin in the airport. They had abandoned him as they were unable to carry him," an official told the news agency Press Trust of India. The men were questioned by wildlife and customs officials and arrested under India's Wildlife Act.
Another smuggler traveling from Bangkok was recently discovered at Mumbai airport with ten turtles hidden in his underwear. His accomplices were found to have Persian cats, tarantula spiders and 11 birds eggs.
