Researchers find legendary kingdom of Punt
WorldResearchers have found out where the legendary kingdom of Punt was located, which is told about in the ancient Egyptian papyri, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reported.
It was noted that the papyrus, where it was told about the Punt who controlled the magic snake, was discovered by Vladimir Golenishchev, an employee of the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1880-1881.
Ritual texts and inscriptions on the murals also testify to the kingdom of Punt or the homeland of the gods.
It is known that many Egyptian rulers sent expeditions to that land, but over time the ties were broken, and this land of the gods turned into a legend.
And recently, researchers found out that the word probably refers to the Horn of Africa: the area of today’s Djibouti, Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea.
According to legend, travelers brought monkeys from the kingdom of Punt. By studying the DNA of monkey mummies, geneticists found out their origin.
At the beginning of our era, in those lands lived the kingdom of Aksum, which arose on the fragments of an earlier culture which, according to experts, belonged to the kingdom of Punt.
