Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney dies at 84
WorldFormer Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, who led his country from 1984 to 1993, has died at the age of 84.
Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada has issued a statement following his death.
“I learned with great sadness today of the death of the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, former Prime Minister of Canada.
“Mr. Mulroney loved Canada. After a distinguished business and legal career, he became Prime Minister in 1984 and made significant progress on important issues here at home and around the world.
“Mr. Mulroney never stopped working for Canadians, and he always sought to make this country an even better place to call home,” the statement reads.
The conservative leader, the 18th prime minister in Canada's history, passed away “peacefully, surrounded by family,” his daughter posted online.
Mulroney led Canada through the closing days of the Cold War and forged a free trade agreement with the US.
