Cyprus FM: We are obligated to oppose aggression, support Armenia
WorldWe are obligated to oppose aggression and support Armenia. Visiting Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos stated this at a joint press conference with his Armenian colleague, Ararat Mirzoyan, in Yerevan Thursday.
The Cypriot FM reminded that his country assisted Armenia after the forcible displacement of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh and sent humanitarian aid to these refugees. On behalf of the Cypriot government, Kombos informed about the project of constructing ten greenhouses in Armenia and confirmed that Cyprus is ready to host the displaced children of Nagorno-Karabakh.
Aggression, revisionism, displacement, all this is unacceptable for the international community. Coercion and the use of force cannot be an alternative to dialogue. Sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected in accordance with international law and the UN Charter. We are obliged to oppose aggression and support Armenia, both politically and materially, the Cypriot FM said, and welcomed all efforts to normalize relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
They fully support their Armenian colleagues, Kombos emphasized, adding that Cyprus has been and remains Armenia's reliable partner.
To the question about the actions by the international community in the conditions of Azerbaijan's continued aggression, the Cypriot official responded that everyone should respect international law, there is no alternative, and respect sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Also, Constantinos Kombos recalled that Cyprus itself has been a victim of aggression and illegal invasion for 50 years by Turkey.
