Azerbaijani side has very negative attitude towards functions of EU mission in Armenia: Peskov
RussiaThe press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, commented on the ratification of the agreement on the status of the European Union mission in Armenia and the granting of diplomatic immunity to the mission.
“At this moment, it is probably worth questioning the possible effectiveness of such a mission,” said Peskov, at the same time drawing attention to the fact that Yerevan's actions are not coordinated with the Azerbaijani side.
“If we understand correctly, the Azerbaijani side has a very negative attitude towards the mission's functions. I doubt that such a mandate will be accepted there with understanding, so it is Yerevan's unilateral decision,” Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
To remind, Armenia’s Parliament ratified the agreement on the status of the European Union mission in Armenia with 57 votes in favor and 27 abstentions. The issue was discussed in the National Assembly yesterday. The main speaker, Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan, noted that the EU mission is in Armenia to increase the level of security and ensure peace and stability in the region.
According to the agreement, the EU mission in Armenia, its units, equipment, personnel will be considered as a representation with diplomatic status, that is, they will have immunity. According to the deputy minister, the civilian mission has a positive effect also from the point of view of rapprochement of Armenia-EU relations.
