China’s Hainan gears up for Boao Forum for Asia 2024
WorldThe Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), held annually in the Chinese resort town of Boao in Hainan Province, will be held from March 26 to 29.
This year’s BFA conference, which will be held under the theme "Asia and the World: Common Challenges, Shared Responsibilities”, will feature panel discussions, roundtables and CEO dialogues, covering multiple Asia-focused topics such as improving the investment ecosystem, deepening financial cooperation, as well as boosting industrial and supply chain partnership. Speakers will also discuss the global economic outlook, among other issues.
The BFA announced on its website that the agenda will also include discussions on topics such as AI, the future of new energy vehicles, and high-quality Belt and Road Cooperation.
Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress Zhao Leji will attend the opening plenary session on March 28.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Nauru David W.R. Adeang, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Daren Tang, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Mathias Cormann are among the expected participants at the forum announced by the BFA.
Earlier in 2024, BFA Secretary-General Li Baodong, announcing this year’s session, said that pursuing peace, seeking development and promoting cooperation remain the dominant and shared aspiration of the international community. Li emphasized that nations around the world should collectively address various global challenges and jointly bear the responsibility for promoting peace and prosperity. “Only through shared responsibility and genuine cooperation among the international community can we steer the world towards continued peace and prosperity,” he said.
Headquartered in China, the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) is an international organization jointly initiated by 29 member states. BFA holds its annual conference in Boao, Hainan on a regular basis. The founding purpose of BFA was to promote economic integration in Asia. Its mission now is to pool positive energy for the development of Asia and the world. Ban Ki-moon, the former UN Secretary-General, serves as BFA Chairman.
