The editor of UK newspaper The Times has resigned, marking the latest in a series of high-level management changes at News Corp as it prepares to split its business into two parts.
James Harding announced his resignation to staff at the paper late Wednesday afternoon, telling colleagues he was leaving because he felt parent company News Corp wanted him to go.
"It has been made clear to me that News Corporation would like to appoint a new Editor of The Times. I have, therefore, agreed to stand down. I called (News Corp chairman) Rupert (Murdoch) this morning to offer my resignation and he accepted it," Mr Harding said in an email to staff seen by The Wall Street Journal.
News Corp owns Dow Jones & Co, publisher of The Wall Street Journal.
Mr Harding will leave by the end of the month. The newspaper's independent directors will be consulted on his replacement, News International, publisher of The Times, said. News International is owned by News Corp.
