Brazil in Shakhtar’s history
Sport
16 Brazilian footballers played for Shakhtar: 2 defenders, 12 midfielders and 2 forwards. Although there was one occasion when an outfield player performed a goalkeeper’s role. We’ll talk about it later. Shakhtar’s Brazilians played 1790 matches in all competitions, scoring 451 goals. For comparison, since July 2002, when a new Brazilian player Brandao joined the team, the whole team have netted 1005 goals. It’s not difficult to calculate that half of the goals was scored by the Brazilian diaspora.
The following three Brazilian players have played the biggest number of game for Shakhtar: Fernandinho (273 matches), Jadson (272) and Willian (221). Brandao was one win away from emulating Willian’s result – 220 games. But he is the top scorer. Brandao has 91 goals under his belt. He is followed by Luiz Adriano with 77 goals. Third place is occupied by Jadson – 64 goals. Fernandinho, who have scored 51 goals, may disturb the composition of the above triumvirate.
Jadson wrote his name in the history of football by netting the final goal in the UEFA Cup and bringing Shakhtar a prestigious trophy. Overall, our Brazilians have scored decisive goals on many occasions – goals that helped win not only in some specific games but also in the tournaments as a whole. Brandao registered one of two pokers scored by Shakhtar players in the Ukrainian championships.
Fernandinho is the only Brazilian player who spent at Shakhtar seven and a half years. Seven – Jadson, six and a half – Brandao.
And now about the unique case: during an official match outfield player performed a role of a goalkeeper. In July 2004, a midfielder Batista became Shakhtar’s player. On the Miner’s Day, the hosts entertained Borysfen. The Pitmen’s new signing replaced Julius Aghahowa on 63 minutes. And on 71 minutes Jan Lashtuvka got sent off for a professional foul. Three substitutions had already been made. Batista put on the gloves to be stationed in goal. He managed to keep an clean sheet.
