Pedro the Conqueror
Sport
It seems only yesterday that a fresh-faced Canary Islander groomed at La Masia made his debut for the Barcelona first team. The date was 12th January 2008, and little Pedro ('Pedrito') – as he was known back then – played just two minutes in a 4-0 win over Murcia. Few would have imagined that he would end up becoming a fixture in the most successful Barça side in history.
In 2009, his real breakthrough year, he made history by becoming the first player to score in six different club competitions in a calendar year. This included decisive winners in the European Super Cup and Club World Cup.
In 2010, Vicente Del Bosque rewarded Pedro's form by calling him up to the Spain squad. The Canary Islander would go on to start the World Cup final in South Africa, playing his part as 'La Roja' won the trophy.
In January 2011, the jet-heeled forward scored for six straight games in the league. However, his greatest moment of glory was to come on 28th May, when he opened the scoring at Wembley as Barça scooped its fourth Champions League title.
Last year, 2012, Pedro notched a brace in the Spanish Cup final victory over Athletic Bilbao, before winning the European Championship with Spain in the summer. All in all, the winger has racked up a staggering 14 trophies with Barça and two for his country in just five years.
