Georgian-Russian vehicular traffic closed

Vehicular movement on the Gudauri-Kobi road section in the direction of the Upper Lars checkpoint at the Georgian-Russian border has been closed today from 11:00 to 17:00 due to the danger of avalanches.

After a week's break, traffic started moving from Georgia to Russia after the road was opened early Sunday morning.

The Road Department told Trend on Monday that there has been a heavy snowfall at the Rikoti pass and the Nakerala pass in western Georgia.

The snow cover on the Rikoti pass reached10-15 cm. It snowed at 05:00 in the morning, but the pass has not been closed as the road is being cleared. However, if the snow does not stop, the movement of trailers and semi-trailers through the pass will be banned.

The movement of all kinds of vehicles in the Gudauri-Kobi section will be banned because of avalanches up to 17 hours.
