Georgian President ready to begin negotiations with Premiere’s team today

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has proposed to Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili to immediately start a dialogue, according to a statement of the president posted on his official Facebook page on Sunday.

Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili "unconditionally" and "unequivocally" condemned violence displayed by the protesters on February 8, resulting in disruption of President's speech at the National Library. The prime minister also expressed his willingness to engage in dialogue with Saakashvili and his team.

President Saakashvili expressed his willingness to meet on Monday to discuss the situation in the country.

"Bidzina Ivanishvili's statement, circulated the day before, may only be regarded positively, as for the first time, the prime minister mentioned the destruction of the United National Movement and offered me and the parliamentary minority to start a dialogue," Saakashvili said.

What happened on February 8 should not happen again, and the pressure on opposition, confrontation, political violence, violence against representatives of the local authorities and management, selective prosecution should be eliminated, the president said.

"I invite the Prime Minister and his team for direct dialogue with me and my team. As soon as on Monday, we are ready to sit down and discuss the constitutional amendments as well as a number of the many initiatives that will ensure the stable development of our country, co-existence of opposition and government and reaching a consensus," Saakashvili said.

The President also reiterated the commitment to deliver the annual speech at the Parliament and speak there to prevent the process of confrontation in the society, which led to the collapse of the country in the 90's.

"February 8 should become the infamous page that should not be repeated. We mustn't teach our society to communicate with the position and the language of hatred," Saakashvili said.
