Armenian National Assembly (NA) Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan's resignation, which he announced at the NA session on Nov. 14, was confirmed by him today, on Nov. 21, due to RA NA Regulation.
According to RA Regulation, if the NA President's post is vacant the new President of NA becomes the Deputy of NA Chairman who received most of the votes during the elections. Therefore, RA NA President's Deputy Samvel Nikoyan who received the most votes (104) will perform the duties of NA President.
To note, during the ruling coalition's Republican Party of Armenia's (RPA) Board session, which was held days before his resignation and to which President Serzh Sargsyan also attended, it was decided that Abrahamyan would now head RPA Election Campaign Headquarters. As per RPA sources, upon receiving this proposal, Abrahamyan suggested that he resigned from his capacity as NA Speaker and solely would conduct election-related activities.
Subsequently Mikayel Minasyan, First Deputy Chief of Armenia's Presidential Staff, also submitted his resignation and announced that he would help Hovik Abrahamyan at the aforesaid Campaign Headquarters.
