Today, on Nov. 25, a press conference of Armenian national league’s second-place team and Super Cup winner Pyunik FC’s now former and Armenian National Team’s present Head Coach Vardan Minasyan took place at Football Academy.
"If the team aspires for success, it needs to have a good goalie and goal scoring footballers", Vardan Minasyan stated during a press conference.
Vardan Minasyan said that “our team will fight for the final round of the World Cup 2014”. He stated that the Armenian national team has already gained rather extensive experience and will play in the same group with Italy, Denmark, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Malta in the World Cup qualifying round.
Summing up the results of Armenia’s national league, Minasyan said the competition was evenly balanced.
Now that Suren Chakhalyan will become Pyunik’s head coach, Vardan Minasyan will work as a technical manager at Pyunik’s school. And with respect to the national squad’s future plans, Minasyan noted that a friendly game is scheduled for February, but the opponent is yet unknown. He also said the positive side to not being Pyunik’s head coach anymore is that he now will have more time to check the Armenian footballers who play abroad. He also added that he agreed with the decision to ban foreign goalkeepers in Armenia’s national league.
Vardan Minasyan did not participate in the vote for Armenia’s 2011 best football player.
During the vote in the National Football Federation, Minasyan signed the form but did not fill in the name. He considers that there is no need to single out any of the players. He does not doubt that the best player would be a member of the Armenian national team.
As to the vote for the best world player, Minasyan voted for Messi, Xavi and Ronaldo. According to him, Vicente del Bosque is the best coach.
