During the Armenian National Assembly’s (NA) four-day session, which got underway on Monday, the ruling coalition’s Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) Parliamentary Faction leader Galust Sahakyan nominated, on the same day, current NA Deputy Speaker Samvel Nikoyan as the next Speaker.
The parliamentary opposition Heritage Party proposed its own nominee, too, as Party leader Raffi Hovannisian nominated Heritage MP Larisa Alaverdyan to this post.
The two nominees will now deliver a 10-minute speech, each, and present their outlook.
In all probability, the secret ballot will be held on Tuesday at 12 p.m.. Also on the same day, but at 6:30 p.m., a special session will be convened, during which RPA MP and Press Secretary Eduard Sharmazanov will be elected as the new NA Deputy Speaker, thereby replacing Samvel Nikoyan.
To note, during its December 1 session, RPA Board decided to nominate Samvel Nikoyan as the new NA Speaker, and Eduard Sharmazanov, as Deputy Speaker.
And Gagik Melikyan will replace Sharmazanov as RPA Parliamentary Faction Secretary.
