Soldiers of NATO member states and partner countries undergo mountain training course in Georgia

Soldiers of NATO member states and partner countries of NATO are undergoing a scheduled international winter training course in Georgia.

As Trend was informed by the Georgian Ministry of Defence, 21 servicemen from Germany, Lithuania, Norway, Estonia, Jordan, Ukraine and Armenia are participating in military training within the scope of NATO's Partnership for Peace Programme at the Sachkhere Mountain Training School of the Ministry of Defence of Georgia in Imereti, Western Georgia.

Instructors of the school are teaching the participants skiing, searching for people under avalanches and technical methods of evacuation.

The soldiers are also learning to overcome barriers on skis and to build a snow shelter, the so-called igloo. The course will finish with tactical marches.

The mountain rifle base at Sachkere was opened in 2006. It was constructed with the support of France in accordance with the cooperation programme of the ministries of defence of the two countries. In June 2011 the base was officially assigned the status of the training centre for the NATO Partnership for Peace Programme.
