"NBC29": Murder in US Virginia State.

The calm at Virginia Tech University was once again shattered by the sound of gunfire and, again, the campus was rocked by tragedy Thursday. Two people are dead after gun violence at the Blacksburg school.
Virginia state police are investigating two shootings at Virginia Tech. Investigators say Deriek W. Crouse, a Virginia Tech police officer, pulled someone over during a routine traffic stop about 12:15 Thursday. Police say a separate person shot and killed the four-year veteran officer in the coliseum parking lot.
The shooter then ran toward the "I" parking lot on campus. At 1:00 p.m. An officer spotted a "suspicious" person in the "I" lot. Police say by the time the officer got to the man in question, he was dead.
The gun has been recovered.
At this point state police investigators say there is no active threat to people at the Virginia Tech campus. But police are reluctant to say at this point if the second victim in this case was actually the gunman himself.
Virginia State Police Sergeant Robert Carpentieri said, "We feel confident that the situation is under control at this time."
The entire campus went on lockdown at about 12:30. It was lifted four hours later. Tech was quick to alert students through text messaging, Twitter and its website about the active shooter.
Virginia Tech President Dr. Charles Steger said, "Tragedy again has struck Virginia Tech in an unwanted act of violence."
A crime scene investigation team is combing both locations for potential evidence as Virginia Tech deals yet again with heartbreak.
Steger said, "Words don't describe our feelings and are must elusive at this point in time."
In response to the shootings, Steger says Friday's final exams will be postponed.
A candlelight vigil will be held at 8:00 Thursday night at Virginia Tech.
