Venezuela to investigate possible Chavez poisoning

Venezuelan authorities plan to open a formal investigation into suspicions that the late President Hugo Chavez’s cancer was the result of poisoning by his enemies abroad.

A statement to this effect was made by Acting President Nicolas Maduro during his interview with the Telesur news network broadcast on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the opposition describes poisoning accusations as a typical Chavez-style conspiracy theory intended to feed fears of ‘imperialist’ threats to Venezuela’s socialist system and distract people from daily problems.

Hugo Chavez died at a Caracas hospital on March 5 after a two-year battle with cancer.
