On December 16 Naira Zohrabyan, Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration, met with the alumni of the Women’s Leadership School. During the meeting numerous issues relating to women’s problems were discussed.
At the guests’ request Ms. Zohrabyan presented her vision about the need of the women’s involvement in the public and political life. Talking about 20 per cent of the women’s involvement in the Electoral Code, the Committee Chairperson opined that it was an important beginning and later that involvement would be possible to increase. Naira Zohrabyan invited the representatives of the NGOs dealing with women’s problems to take part in the parliamentary hearings being held on January 20, where the draft law “On Provision of Women’s and Men’s Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities" would be discussed. She proposed the women leaders a package of social guarantees, as well as more practical mechanism, which would promote the application of the law. The problems concerning the parliamentary women working in the international structures were discussed. The women were also interested in a number of issues concerning the upcoming parliamentary elections.
In the course of the meeting issues pertaining to the domestic violence towards women, demographic situation of the country, the problems of migration. The problem of prevention of the emigration of the capable forces was especially emphasized. Ms Zohrabyan gave detailed and thorough clarifications to all questions.
