ARF-D casts doubts on Republican's promise to hold fair elections.

The upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections are unlikely to fair and transparent, according Artsvik Minasyan, a lawmaker from the opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation- Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D) faction in National Assembly.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Minasyan said Armenia's current socio-economic situation, particularly, migration and the deteriorating poverty, would prove a decisive factor in electoral processes.
"The only thing to do in such circumstances is to hope that our society will make a choice between implementing real reforms and seeking just crumbs," he said.
Referring to Armenia's amended Electoral Code, Minasyan said it does not reflect their party's proposals.
Disagreeing with the ARF-D lawmaker, Hovhannes Sahakyan of the Republican Party faction in parliament promised that 2012 parliamentary and 2013 presidential polls will be the freest and most transparent elections ever held in Armenia.
"We declare that the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections will be the freest and most transparent. We do have that will, and all political forces have to do is to create a sustainable environment," he noted.
Minasyan proposed in turn installing video cameras in all polling stations to fix possible irregularities and establish accountability measures against those engaged in fraudulent practices.
"Why don't the authorities declare that they video record all polling stations to hold those guilty of all kinds of frauds accountable?" he added.
