RA NA Speaker Samvel Nikoyan received the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the RA Vyacheslav Kovalenko.

On December 20 Samvel Nikoyan, Speaker of the RA National Assembly, received Vyacheslav Kovalenko, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Armenia.

Welcoming the guest the Speaker of the National Assembly congratulated him and the whole Russian people in the person of him on the occasion of the elections of the sixth convocation State Duma and wished success to the newly elected deputies of the State Duma in their parliamentary activity.

Samvel Nikoyan has noted that the relations with the Russian Federation are one of the foreign policy priorities, and the Armenian-Russian strategical cooperation of recent years continues to successfully develop comprising many new spheres.

Showing appreciation for the reception and congratulations the RF Ambassador in his turn congratulated Samvel Nikoyan on being elected RA NA Speaker.

The interlocutors highly appreciated the close contacts and cooperation existing between the parliaments of Armenia and Russia. In the RA NA Speaker’s words inter-parliamentary effective cooperation has a special place in the Armenian-Russian relationship, which is greatly promoted by the activity of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the RA NA and the RF State Duma. Samvel Nikoyan also stressed the significant role of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, which managed to qualitatively change and activate the parliamentary cooperation between the CIS countries. The cooperation within the framework of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly successfully develops.

In the course of the meeting the sides also touched upon other issues of bilateral interest.
