Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress Levon Zurabyan summed up the political year and dwelt future plans on December 21.
Levon Zurabyan stated that this year was the most active and the most productive year for the Armenian National Congress: they held 22 republican rallies and marches, including the eight-day sit in.
“This was not useless activeness; I think we achieved good results. The right to freedom of gathering in Armenia can be considered completely restored, the Freedom Square is open not only to the Congress but also to other forces. These are important achievements”, said Zurabyan.
He said that the biggest achievement is that they forced the authorities to release all political prisoners and the power failed to use them as political trade hostages.
Levon Zurabyan retains important the fact that Congress submitted the legal grounds of the illegitimacy of the president and parliament to the president and adopted also the rally declaration on Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation.
He says one more important right has not yet been restored- the right to form their own power. Zurabyan said that the dialogue was aimed at this which had to become the greatest achievement of the year but became instead the greatest failure of the year. Levon Zurabyan stated that the authorities are responsible for this failure because they need to understand that no dialogue can be without concessions.
