French MP Patrick Devedjian said he is impressed by Turkey’s manifestation of force.
As Patrick Devedjian stated during the debate on a bill panalyzing Genocide denial at French parliament, “by denying the Genocide, Turkey denies its past. The truth behind the Armenian Genocide must not be questioned, but rather, supported by a political step.”
“When I see display of force in our territory I understand what happens in Turkey. For instance, the suspicious murder of Hrant Dink,” he said.
“I'm sure both left- and right-wing parliamentarians are determined to vote for the victory of justice,” the policitican said.
Patrick Devedjian recalled that the Armenian Genocide was recognized by Turkey and the organizers were sentenced to death back in 1919.
“French historians had an opportunity to write about the Armenian Genocide. Famous Turkish historian Taner Akcam used the sources Armenians are not aware of. However, he is now persecuted in Turkey. We have noting to be afraid of in France. This bill punishes propaganda of hatred,” he said.
To note, today, on December 22, the French parliament is debating the bill, which envisages a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros for those who publicly deny the Armenian Genocide in France.
