Armenian experts in Turkish studies consider that adoption of the Armenian bill by France lies in the interests of both countries.
Adoption of the bill criminalizing denial of Armenian Genocide shows the failure of Turkish policy, expert Anush Hovhannisyan stated on during a Saturday press conference. According to her, it is a great victory but we should be careful with it.
“For now Armenia’s and France’s interests are the same,” she said.
Artak Shakaryan also shares Anush Hovhannisyan’s opinion. According to the expert, adoption of the bill is a new phase but unfortunately it is not only a result of Armenian diplomacy but also correspondence of interests.
France’s National Assembly passed on Thursday the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial.
The bill introduced by MP Valerie Boyer supposes a year in jail or 45,000 euro punishment for those who will challenge or extremely minimize the fact of the 1915 Armenian Genocide officially recognized by France on January 29, 2001.
