Venezuela has to pay $5.1 million to get back its UN voting rights

Venezuela has been temporarily deprived of the right to vote in the UN General Assembly following its failure to make regular contributions to the UN budget. Now it will have to pay $5.1 million to have its voting rights restored.
Other countries that were stripped of UN voting rights for the same reason include the Dominican Republic, Sierra Leone, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe.
22 countries were listed among debtors to the UN in a letter sent by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to the UN General Assembly in January 2013.
