Political analyst Karen Bekaryan highly assessed the adoption of the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
At a news conference he noted that France remains the cradle of human rights, democracy. “Though cited as an attempt to garner electoral votes, the French parliament’s actions allowed to draw the international community's attention to Armenian Genocide issue.”
"This step must be welcomed as it is in the field of all-human values," Bekaryan said. He noted that the process of recognition of the Armenian Genocide has got a new impetus. "It is a big political process that has its continuation," the political analyst said.
He noted that Turks made efforts so that the world imagines and understands what a debate on Turkish level means. "We must be thankful to Turkey for showing its real face," Bekaryan said.
To note, National Assembly of France adopted on December 22 the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide. The draft law envisages a year in jail and a fine of 45,000 euros for those who publicly deny the Armenian Genocide in France.
