RA National Assembly Speaker Samvel Nikoyan received the newly appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.

Chairman of the RA National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan received newly appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Trayan Hristea, reports the NA press service.

The NA Chairman congratulated him on his appointment and attached importance to more active cooperation with the EU Office. Nikoyan mentioned that the cooperation should be efficient and practical through the continuation of the established traditions and expressed hope for Trayan Hristea's efforts in that process.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia appreciated the cooperation with the National Assembly and NA Chairman Samvel Nikoyan's willingness to carry out joint activities efficiently. He welcomed the NA Chairman's statements and actions to make cooperation between the parliament and the media more transparent.

NA Chairman Samvel Nikoyan mentioned that the parliament is the body elected by people and shouldn't be cut off.

The interlocutors attached importance to holding free and transparent elections and to having the society and the international community accept them as that the EU representative expressed satisfaction with the authorities' willingness to hold free, fair and transparent elections and voiced hope that the results of the elections would be accepted by the political parties that play an important role in Armenia's politics.

The sides also touched upon the programs with the EU, particularly the Eastern Partnership and the cooperation within the framework of the EuroNest Parliamentary Assembly.
