World-known Armenian-French singer Charles Aznavour thanked French President Nicolas Sarkozy after French National Assembly approved bill on criminalization of Armenian Genocide denial. Associated France Press writes about this.
“You have applied for many times to recognize Armenian Genocide and you have noted that freedom of speech does not intend to distort the history or to deny the historical facts.
France has inspired 500.000 French people with Armenian origin for already 10 years. As 10 years ago France recognized Armenian Genocide. We are proud that French National Assembly approved the bill on criminalization of Armenian Genocide denial”, the letter said.
Remind that French National Assembly voted for the approval of the bill on criminalization of Armenian Genocide denial on December 22.
So, according to the new law everyone who denies Armenian Genocide in France will be sentenced with a year and will be fined with 45.000 Euros.
After this approval Turkish Ambassador left Paris and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Turkey would cancel all types of relations with Turkey. French President asked Turkish side to respect their decision.
