Serzh Sargsyan highly appraises successes of national football and chess teams.

Conclusive sports event of 2011 was held with participation of President Serzh Sargsyan. Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, Armenia's second president Robert Kocharyan, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee Gagik Tsarukyan and representatives of local sports attended the event.

During the gathering President Serzh Sargsyan congratulated the sportsmen, who have upheld the honor of our country during the world and European championships, on the achievements and the upcoming holidays, wishing them new successes in the sphere of sport. "It was a long time our people had not paid so much attention to football. Thanks to the performances of the national team of Armenia even those who are not interested in football utter the names of Henrich Mkhitaryan and Yura Movsisyan," said the head of the republic. As for the national chess team of Armenia, according to the president, it proved one more time that Armenia is a state of chess.

Silver medal-bearer of the European Championship, Greco-Roman wrestler Roman Amoyan, who has been recognized the best athlete of Armenia for 2011, his teammates in the wrestling team of Greco-Roman style Arsen Julfalakyan, Arthur Alexanyan, Musa Murtazaliev, weightlifters Arayik Mirzoyan, Aghasi Aghasyan, boxers Vladimir Sarukhanyan and others were awarded by the head of the republic.

Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Armenia Gagik Tsarukyan stated that 2011 was an expectant year and the sportsmen have saved their strength for getting prepared for the Summer Olympic Games to be held in London in 2012.

This year Armenia's athletes have achieved 135 medals of different classes.
