Cuba: reporters allowed to visit prisons outside Havana

Cuban government has admitted that the work of journalists in the country is impeded by certain restrictions.
Cuba has long been criticized by the West for tough media censorship.
First Vice President of the Council of State, Miguel Diaz-Canel, called for measures to be taken to improve the functioning of national mass media relying on scientific and innovative prospects.
His statement was published the next day after Cuban authorities allowed a group of journalists to visit male and female prisons outside Havana for the first time in the past nine years.
International human rights organizations have long been unsuccessfully seeking such an opportunity.
