Environmentalists protest in front of Armenian Government against the decision of exploiting Kajaran lands.

Several environmentalists gathered outside the Government building earlier today to protest against a decision to hand over six community lands in the southern region of Syunik (including Kajaran village) to the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Plant.
With slogans reading “Eco Colonists”, “Save our Homeland” etc., the protesters called for declaring the decision invalid.
Activists of the youth group who had earlier campaigned for the protection of the Trchkan waterfall, members of Sardarapat initiative, representatives of the opposition Heritage party, and other political and civil society organizations had gathered together to protect the lands of Kajaran village from exploitation. Speaking to reporters, Kajaran governor said he will not sign decision under any circumstances.
Policemen later approached the crowd, asking them to free the territory, but an environmental activist, Apres Zohrabyan said they were waiting for the Government’s response to their letter. The protesters later headed towards the Presidential Office.
