Argentinian President Cristina Fernández will be operated on for thyroid cancer.

Cristina Fernández suffers from a papillary thyroid carcinoma and will be on sick leave from Jan 4th to the 24th, announced the Communication Secretary, Alfredo Scoccimarro.
According to the national constitution, Vice president Amado Boudou will take over during the mentioned period.
Scoccimarro announced that according to the Presidential Health Unit, a papillary thyroid carcinoma on the right lobule of the gland had been detected during the routine health control.
He added no other effects had been detected during the analysis. Therefore, the disease is specifically located in the gland and will be duly treated with surgery.
The President will be operated then, on January 4th at the Austral Hospital in the locality of Pilar and will remain there for 72 h. She will take sick leave though until January 24th.
The operation will be carried out by Dr Pedro Saco and his team. Dr Saco is the Surgery Dpt Head at the Austral Hospital and rules the Head and Neck Service at the Oncological Institute Doctor Angel Roffo, Cubasi.cu reported.
