Real Madrid's Iker Casillas has street named after him in Mostoles.

The mayor of the World Cup-winning goalkeeper's hometown organised a special ceremony to honour the achievements of the city's most famous son, goal.com reported.

Real Madrid and Spain star Iker Casillas has had a street named after him in his native Mostoles.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper, who skippered Spain to victory in Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup, was invited by the mayor of his hometown to attend a special ceremony at which the 'Avenida de los Deportes' was officially renamed as 'Iker Casillas Avenue'.

“I am very proud to return to the city where I grew up,” Casillas said on Thursday after the unveiling of the new street sign bearing his name. 

“I want to thank the mayor for everything he has done and especially my coaches past and present.

“It's an added responsibility that my name will always be attached to Mostoles, as well as a joy, a pride and an honour. Sometimes dreams do come true. 

“If a guy from here became Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, why not a boy from another street here?”
