Dreamliner makes first Japan flight since grounding over batteries
World
Japan has successfully conducted the first test flight of the updated Dreamliner. Tests were carried out by JAL company. Regular flights are on track to be resumed in June. Another Japanese company, All Nippon Airways Co., intends to resume regular Boeing Dreamliner flights in May, TASS reports.
The Government of Japan had grounded Dreamliner after a series of incidents with the lithium-ion batteries that caused a fire on board a plane parked in Boston and forced an ANA-operated aircraft to make an emergency landing in Shikoku at the beginning of the year.
This resulted in the airliners being similarly grounded in several other countries, including the United States. After months of investigations, the FAA on Thursday formally approved Boeing’s battery fix, with Ethiopian Airlines on Saturday becoming the first carrier to reinstate the aircraft, on a flight from Addis Ababa to Nairobi.
