Aregbesola supports Nigerians on protest against fuel subsidy removal.

Nigerian Tribune - Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, on Sunday, lent his support to the ongoing protest by Nigerians, insisting that only true federalism and state control of resources will put paid to the ceaseless fuel subsidy protests.

Aregbesola made this assertion in Lagos where he was the guest of honour at the eighth series of the Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture/Symposium organised by the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ikeja branch, with the theme, "Nigeria's Socio-Economic Maladministration: Any Possibility of a Revolution?"

According to the governor, there is nobody that can prevent Nigerians from protesting against what they believe will add more pain to them.

He added that the state of the nation was so fragile that both Nigerians and the government should handle the ongoing protest with care so that it would not be hijacked by the military who may want to capitalise on the tensed situation.

“The situations antecedent to the protest and the aftermath have once again revealed the fragile nature of our state. For some time, the country has been in the throes of terrorists, hiding under religion, to perpetrate mayhem. There have been indiscriminate bombings and shootings in which the United Nations building in Abuja and worship centres were targeted.

"This alone has pushed the country towards the precipice before the removal of petrol  subsidy was added to the fire. People were already agitated as to the future of the country considering the grim prospect of ethno-religious conflict,” he said.
