Unstoppable Rafa Nadal

Rafa Nadal was proclaimed champion of the Mutua Madrid Open after beating Stanislas Wawrinka in two sets. The Majorcan clinched his third title in the Spanish capital and the king of clay's 40th on the surface.
Nadal has fared well against Wawrinka and has defeated him on all nine occasions the pair have met – this latest saw the Spaniard claim his third Madrid title. Nadal, who won the tournament in 2005 and 2010, once again tasted victory at Madrid's Caja Mágica, after winning 6-2, 6-4 in a game that lasted for one hour and twenty minutes at the Manolo Santana stadium.
The match started according to plan for Nadal, as Wawrinka played well but could not stop the Spaniard, who was at a different level and fired up to win. He did not drop serve, from which he only conceded two points, and returned extremely well, breaking twice to open up a gap on the score-board. His forehand was fast and steady, to the delight of the local crowd. Nadal always seemed to be in control of the encounter and won the first set comfortably with an ace in a hold to love.
Nadal now has 54 titles to his name - 40 of which have been won on clay, which equals Thomas Muster's record and means he is only behind Guillermo Vilas (46 wins).
