Putin to discuss situation in Syria with Israeli PM
Russia
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is to discuss the situation in Syria with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, arriving in Russia on a working visit. The talks will be held in Sochi.
According to the press service of the Kremlin, "in the course of the meeting there will be an exchange of views on key aspects of bilateral relations."
It is assumed that principal attention will be paid to the current situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria, said in a statement.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told ITAR-TASS news agency Monday that "the negotiations will center on a settlement in Syria, where, unfortunately, the situation has a tendency to be further aggravated, and cannot but raise Russia’s concerns."
Peskov said that "serious negotiations would take place."
As previously reported by ITAR-TASS, quoting a source close to the Israeli leadership, "the main theme will be the issues pertaining to supply of Russian weapons to the region, particularly Syria."
