Georgia’s First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs released on bail

The First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Gela Khvelidze was released on bail of 5,000 lari by the Tbilisi City Court.
The court selected the preliminary measure of restraint for Khvedelidze without the presence of the accused. The judge granted the appeal of the defense, but the prosecution demanded detention as a preventive measure.

Gela Khvedelidze is charged under the third part of Article 157 of the Criminal Code of Georgia - the disclosure of privacy, which provides for a fine or imprisonment of up to three years. It is about sharing by the former Deputy Interior Minister of video files in Internet, compromising journalist Georgy Paresashvili.
