Dolphin-assisted childbirth is the new trend
Science and culture
Mothers-to-be now have another birthing option with dolphin-assisted childbirth. Some couples have already tried it out and claim that it is natural and more relaxing way to have a child. One organization, the Sirius Institute, is making the dolphin-aided birth a reality.
Parents in the making, Adam and Heather Barrington from North Carolina have already journeyed to Hawaii in order to organize the dolphin-assisted birth with the Sirius Institute. "It is about reconnecting as humans with the dolphins so we can coexist in this world together and learn from one another," Heather Barrington told the Charlotte Observer, who is expecting this July.
Not everyone agrees with this particular way of delivering a child, claiming it could be dangerous. Discover commented saying it is "possibly the worst idea, ever," making clear that a powerful animal, like a dolphin, may not be the best creature to be by a woman who is giving birth, or near her newborn child. Not only is that a cause for concern, male dolphins can be especially aggressive. They have reportedly raped and killed other dolphins too.
"People who are deeply called to be with the dolphins search widely and find us," as stated on the institute's site. No matter the possible risks of giving birth around dolphins, the institute also says they get as many as four requests every week for their dolphin-assisted birth program.
